The Advanced Closing add-on gives you more control over how visitors close popups created with Instant Popup Builder. It extends the default closing behavior with options such as custom close buttons, auto-close timers, countdown messages, mobile swipe gestures, redirect actions, and popup chaining.
Use this add-on when you want to customize the popup closing experience or trigger an action after a popup is dismissed.
Where to Find the Settings
To configure Advanced Closing settings:
- In WordPress, go to Instant Popups.
- Create a new popup or edit an existing one.
- Open General → Closing in the popup settings.
- Find the Advanced Closing section.
- Configure the available options.
- Click Save or Update.
Note: The Advanced Closing feature is available through a Premium Extension of Instant Popup Builder. Get this Extension.

Custom Close Option
The Custom Close Option controls the visible close button or close control used inside the popup.
Default
Uses the close button configured by the core Instant Popup Builder plugin.
Custom Icon
Use Custom Icon to replace the standard close icon with your own image.
To set a custom icon:
- Select Custom Icon.
- Paste an image URL or click Upload to choose an image from the WordPress Media Library.
- Use a square, transparent PNG or SVG for the best result.
- Click Clear to remove the selected image.
A 24 × 24 pixel image is recommended.
The custom icon follows the close-button position selected in the core Closing settings.
Custom Text Label
Use Custom Text Label to replace the close icon with a text button, such as:
- Close
- No thanks
- Continue browsing
To set a custom text label:
- Select Custom Text Label.
- Enter the button text.
- Use Label background color to choose the button background.
- Save or update the popup.
The custom label follows the close-button position selected in the core Closing settings.
Auto-Close and Countdown
Use Auto-Close After Seconds to close the popup automatically after a set amount of time.
Enter the number of seconds before the popup should close.
Leave the field empty or enter 0 to disable auto-close.
Show Countdown
Enable Show countdown to display a countdown message inside the popup, such as:
“Closing in 5s”
Use Countdown background color to customize the countdown message background.
Timer Pause Behavior
To avoid interrupting visitors, the auto-close timer pauses automatically when:
- The visitor hovers over the popup.
- Keyboard focus is inside the popup.
- The visitor switches to another browser tab.
- The browser is minimized.
The timer resumes when the visitor is no longer interacting with the popup and returns to the active browser tab.
Close After Form Submit
Enable Close after form submit to close the popup automatically after a supported form reports a successful submission.
The popup will not close if the form submission fails or returns a validation error.
Swipe or Drag to Close
Enable Swipe/drag to close (mobile) to allow visitors on touch devices to close the popup with a downward swipe.
To prevent accidental closures, the gesture is ignored when visitors interact with and helps visitors use forms and interactive popup content normally.
Show the Close Button After Hover
Use Show close button on hover after (ms) to hide the close button until the visitor hovers over or focuses inside the popup for a specified amount of time.
For example:
Enter 800 to reveal the close button after 800 milliseconds.
This option is skipped when:
- The core plugin already hides the close button.
- The core plugin uses its own hover behavior.
On touch-only devices, the close button is not hidden by this feature.
Disable Page Scrolling
Enable Disable scrolling when popup is active to stop the page behind the popup from scrolling while the popup is open.
Scrolling is restored when the popup closes.
If multiple popups are open, scrolling remains locked until all popups using this setting are closed.
On Close Event
Use On Close Event to choose what happens after the popup closes.
None
Closes the popup without performing any additional action.
Redirect to URL
Select Redirect to URL to send visitors to another page after the popup closes.
Enter the full destination URL.
Enable Open in new tab if the destination should open in a separate browser tab.
Open Another Popup
Select Open Another Popup to display another popup after the current popup closes.
Enter the ID of the popup you want to open next.
You can find popup IDs in the Instant Popups list.
The target popup must exist and be available on the current page. Do not use the same popup as its own target.
